Dr. Trevor Shelton is an orthopaedic surgeon practicing in Utah County for Intermountain Health treating conditions of the hip and knee.

Dr. Shelton brings an abundance of training to the state of Utah and is the only dual-fellowship trained surgeon in the state in orthopaedic sports medicine and hip preservation and reconstruction. Dr. Shelton grew up in Utah and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in bioengineering from the University of Utah in 4 years. He then got his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Shelton then completed a 6-year orthopaedic surgery residency from the University of California, Davis. One year was devoted to research publishing multiple papers on the benefits of kinematically aligned total knee replacements with the designer of the technique, Dr. Stephen Howell.

After residency, Dr. Shelton completed a one-year orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute, one of the most respected and storied sports medicine fellowships in the world.

Dr. Shelton then completed a hip preservation and reconstruction fellowship at the world renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO. While there he learned hip arthroscopy and advanced revision hip arthroscopy techniques from Dr. Marc Philippon, a leader and innovator in the field of hip arthroscopy. While there he also learned the anterior approach total hip from Dr. Joel Matta, the pioneer and innovator of the anterior approach total hip. Dr. Shelton has also served as a physician for the Premier Lacrosse League and the US Ski Team.

Throughout his training, Dr. Shelton has cared for anyone from the weekend warrior to farmers to celebrities, and athletes from the Olympics, MLB, MLS, NHL, NBA, PLL, and the NFL.

Dr. Shelton currently helps treat hip injuries in athletes for Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. Dr. Shelton is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). He also regularly helps teach the anterior approach total hip to residents and fellows at the Anterior Hip Foundation. He is very involved in research and has published over 60 papers and book chapters and has presented his research at national and international meetings earning several awards for his research. Dr. Shelton loves spending time with his wife and three kids and living an active lifestyle.
