Overview
The exact surgery for multiligamentous knee injuries depend on the ligaments involved and type of tears. After initial workup of neurovascular structures and stabilizing the knee, when time comes for the definitive surgery, all torn ligaments should be addressed in one way or another – whether through a repair, reconstruction, or if a minor tear possible just bracing. In addition, any cartilage or meniscus injury will have to be factored into the surgical planning. These are complex injuries and should be carefully planned out and executed. Depending on the injury, it may take multiple surgeries to adequately address everything appropriately.
Potential Implications:
Blood loss, infection, damage to nerves or blood vessels, graft failure, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and need for additional surgery.
